Wooden fountain pen with mammoth tooth

Mammoth – The very name of this pen hints at the materials used in its construction and its history. Mammoths were extinct animals that lived alongside humans during the Pleistocene. At that time, they were one of the most sought-after sources of resources (meat, hides, bones), which helped people survive in an increasingly harsh climate. We’re talking about periodic ice ages here. Mammoth bones served as the framework for houses, while their hides were used for tents, beds, and rugs—in short, any form of insulation against the cold. Their meat and fat, on the other hand, were a source of food. As a result, people knew these enormous animals very well and learned to hunt them effectively. Returning to our pen, it is made of natural oak wood with an inlay of mammoth tusk on the barrel (we’ve written about this material before). The cap features a depiction of a hunt for this giant, inspired by cave paintings from France. The red color references the techniques used by people of that time, namely ochre (iron oxides) mixed with animal fat and blood. The barrel of our pen is made of black resin and features a silver Jowo nib.
