Synthetic opal fountain pen
Ethiopian Opal - opals are strange stones. They are not minerals because they have not developed a full crystal structure. Opal is partially recrystallized silica, which is why it is called a minaraloid. Interestingly, the degree of packing and density of silica grains is responsible for opalization, opalescence or the cat's eye effect in the stone. Ethiopian opals, compared to Australian ones, usually have more pastel colors of the stone with simultaneous intense opalization. Our turquoise greenish pen strongly resembles opals from Ethiopia. On the greenish basic color of artificial opal we have a beautiful yellow-orange opalization. Sometimes there is also a blue or green flash. It is worth mentioning that synthetic opal is made of small silica crystals immersed in resin and, similarly to the real one, the arrangement and density of packing of silica grains in the matrix creates these beautiful opalescent colors.
