We are slowly moving on to our flagship pens – magical gardens. We have already embedded almost everything in resin, but the preparation process itself is interesting. The idea for flowers was born when we had already processed seeds, pine cones, pits, shells, 3D prints, wood and many other things. In general, embedding elements in resin is not particularly difficult, but you have to remember about the orientation of the object, i.e. you have to imagine what the block will ultimately look like and what kind of pen will be created from it. It is worth remembering that the body and the cap are actually hollow tubes, so you have to make sure that the material you are interested in is on the entire surface of the block. This is a matter of experience and spatial imagination. Returning to the flowers, the idea came from Kamila and was implemented by her. At first, it was not so colorful, because we only had helichrysum flowers from the garden. When it worked out, we went further. Now it looks like Kamila, as soon as something comes out of the ground and starts blooming, cuts off its head and dries it. In fact, her passion for gardening is limited to collecting flowers and drying them. Rose petals, dahlias, columbines, helichrysum, lavender and whatever else she can get her hands on. Additionally, we buy whole armfuls of dried flowers, grasses, spikelets, mosses, lichens and everything that can be stuffed into resin. Hence, creating a specific garden is related to the availability of appropriate flowers. Similarly to the stabilization of wood, the elements immersed in resin must be dry. An additional problem is to ensure that the medium thoroughly penetrates, sticks to every smallest petal, twig, leaf or spikelet. Why is it so important, because every flaw means less durability of the pen and it can break during turning. Remembering that the pen is a tube, most of the material is removed during turning, so in order for the flowers to remain on the surface in the block itself, there must be a lot and density of them. There are barely two cans visible on the surface, and at least 6 of them were crammed in. So you can only imagine how, in addition to the typical making of the pen itself, we had to find time to prepare such blocks.
